The Hoppings is back on Newcastle’s Town Moor, bringing ten days of thrills, family entertainment, food and fairground fun to the city.
Widely regarded as Europe’s largest travelling funfair, the annual event returned on Friday, June 19, and will run until Sunday, June 28. Organisers say visitors can enjoy more than 400 rides and attractions, ranging from traditional fairground favourites to some of the biggest thrill rides on the travelling circuit.

Among the headline attractions this year is Elevate85, a towering new ride which takes passengers high above the Newcastle skyline, alongside popular returning rides including Atmosfear, the Giant Observation Wheel and the Tagada.

As well as the rides, visitors can enjoy a wide selection of food and drink at Feast Street, with street food traders, licensed bars and live entertainment adding to the festival atmosphere. Canny Radio went along to sample the food and enjoy some of the rides:
The Hoppings has been a fixture of Newcastle’s summer calendar since 1882, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year and becoming one of the North East’s most cherished traditions.

Entry to the event is free, although individual rides are charged separately. The fair is open daily on the Town Moor, with organisers encouraging visitors to use public transport where possible due to the popularity of the event.
