Monday 1st June has been confirmed as the launch date for a brand-new radio station broadcasting across Newcastle and Gateshead on DAB — Canny Radio.
On air 24 hours a day, Canny Radio promises a soundtrack of “belta” music while celebrating life on Tyneside. Designed to move away from the traditional radio format, the station aims to better reflect how people listen to and use radio today.
Listeners can expect a constant stream of much-loved music alongside local news, events, community announcements and appeals from across Newcastle and Gateshead.
The playlist will span generations and genres, recognising that most people’s musical tastes can’t be confined to just one era. So, if you enjoy Chappell Roan’s Pink Pony Club, but also love My Girl by The Temptations, Canny Radio is definitely for you.
The station will also include fun features about local people and places, as well as broadcast live from some of Newcastle and Gateshead’s biggest events.
To listen on DAB radio, listeners will need to re-scan their digital radios from 1st June for Canny Radio to appear in their station list. It will also be available via smart speakers and online.
