Developers have revealed the first images of plans to transform Gateshead Old Town Hall and surrounding land into a new neighbourhood with around 250 homes.
The Grade II-listed Victorian building has stood largely unused since 1987. After purchasing the site in 2024, regeneration company Capital & Centric began developing proposals to restore the landmark and help drive wider regeneration in Gateshead town centre.
Plans include new homes, independent cafés, bars and restaurants, as well as new green spaces and a public pocket park. The project is being developed with support from Gateshead Council and the North East Combined Authority, which has provided £3.4 million in funding.
Residents are being invited to view the proposals and share their feedback before a planning application is submitted later this year. A public drop-in consultation event will take place on 4 June from 4pm to 7pm at VANE, Orbis Community, 65 High Street, Gateshead.
